First week and I'm still alive

Well I can't believe I finally get to write you guys. I have to say iI have been sad not to have heard from you guys, except Mom's letters, but I guess you didn't have my email or address. It turns out you can send letters without the mailbox number, but oh well. But don't hesitate to write because you can just send things to me with just the old address. I can't wait to hear from everyone. I miss you all so much. Before I forget, will you guys send me my flip flops for the shower and some sweats? Thanks.

Well the first week has been crazy. I got here got my nametag and some papers and stuff, dropped my bags off and went to a meeting with all the new missionaries. Then we went straight to class where our teacher only spoke Italian. What I mean is that he can speak English but he only speaks Italian to us. It wasn't til a couple days later that I heard him speak English and it was so weird. For a second I thought- "What? He speaks English?"

My teachers are Fratello Calder and Sorella Smith. They're both really great. I'm learning a lot too. I think I'm the type of missionary Dad would have grumbled at because I'm learning Italian so fast. It's really not too hard. I can already pray and bear my testimony in Italian and even though I can't speak too much I can understand quite a bit. Sometimes it's frustrating but I'm trying to be patient.

My companion is Anziano D'Addabbo. He's from arizona and is also the oldest of 6 kids. But he has 5 little sisters!

The food is fine. It's not terrible but it's just kind of bland. I don't really blame them because they are feeding a ton of people but none of it has much flavor. It's fine but it is making me dream about eating in Italy.

The Linkous' baby blessing sounds like it was so much fun. I can't wait to see their house. I love the Linkous'. I can't remember proper grammar but I'm not going to worry about it my time is ticking away.

I really love gym. I know it sounds funny but after having Italian spoken to you all day its really nice to go run around a little. You guys would be proud of me; I'm running every day.

One of the weird things about being a missionary is that you can spend a lot of time with a group and only know their last name. Yesterday I found out that Anziano Rockwood is actually Helaman Theodore Wendyl Nephi Rockwood. Crazy huh? I love our family names.

To be honest it's been pretty hard. Things have gotten better since Sunday because everyone is settling in and we're becoming better friends. I didn't think it would be easy but I never thought it would be this hard. I just have to have faith that this is where I'm supposed to be and that I'm doing the right thing.

I miss you guys a lot. I don't know how i got so lucky to be in our family. I miss each and every one of you. I hope you're doing well and I can't wait to hear from you.

I love you guys and I miss you.

Love, Ben
